Escape your Limitations.

With the following page of resources, the goal is for you to have knowledge and tools needed for combating pain and preventing injury in between sessions.

Glossary of Treatment Techniques

POSTURAL/GAIT ANALYSIS:
Assessments used by various healthcare professionals to evaluate your body's alignment and movement patterns. Often done standing or on the treadmill.

SPORT-SPECIFIC MANUAL THERAPY:
A targeted approach designed to help athletes overcome activity induced movement restriction and pain to achieve their full performance potential.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE:
A technique that focuses on releasing tension and restrictions in the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds and supports your muscles, organs, and other structures in your body.

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY:
A method to treat those tiny, hypersensitive knots you sometimes feel deep within your muscles that can cause pain that lingers or spreads to other areas (referred pain), making them a common culprit behind aches and stiffness.

STRAIN-COUNTERSTRAIN:
Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) is a technique for pain and movement limitations. Unlike massage, it uses sustained stretches or compressions applied by the therapist's hands to release restrictions in the fascia, the body's connective tissue.

SOMATO-VISCERAL INTEGRATION:
A gentle manual therapy technique that focuses on the interconnectedness of your musculoskeletal system (somato) and your internal organs (viscera).

CHAPMAN’S REFLEX POINTS:
Developed by osteopathic physician Dr. James P. Chapman, these points are a diagnostic tool used to identify potential imbalances or dysfunction in your internal organs and are located on the surface of the body, often between the skin and subcutaneous tissue.

BENNETT’S REFLEX POINTS:
Dr. Terrance J. Bennett discovered these reflex points, located about the head and front of the trunk, that were believed to affect the circulation of the vascular system of various organs and glands to improve many types of conditions.

MUSCLE ENERGY TECHNIQUES:
Active exercises that use a muscle’s own energy in the form of gentle isometric contractions to relax the muscles via autogenic or reciprocal inhibition, lengthening the muscle.

CRANIAL TECHNIQUES:
A form of Osteopathic medicine that uses gentle touch to assess the skull and spine through subtle rhythmic movements, using these to manipulate the affected cranial bones.

INHIBITORY TECHNIQUE:
This activity involves the use of sensory input to decrease or inhibit muscle tone and abnormal movement patterns, helping clients achieve better control and coordination of movement.

FUNCTIONAL TECHNIQUE:
A form of osteopathic manual medicine in which all therapeutic maneuvers are strictly controlled by physiologic responses in the area of somatic dysfunction under the palpating fingers.
